Eligibility Criteria

Age Limit

No minimum or maximum age limit is prescribed for GATE 2027. Candidates of any age who meet the qualifying degree requirements are eligible to apply as per IIT GATE 2027 rules.

Qualification

Candidates must have passed or must currently be appearing in the final year of any of the following qualifying programmes from a recognised institution or university:

Selection Process

  1. Submit the online application form at the official GATE 2027 portal before 21 September 2026 to benefit from the lower Phase I fee.
  2. Download the Admit Card before the examination from the official portal and verify paper, date, shift, and centre details.
  3. Appear in the GATE 2027 Examination on the allotted date among 06–07, 13–14, or 20–21 February 2027 at the designated Computer Based Test centre.
  4. Await the GATE 2027 Result declared on 19 March 2027 and download your GATE Scorecard — valid for 3 years for PG admission and PSU recruitment purposes.
  5. Apply to individual IITs, NITs, IIITs, CFTIs, or PSUs using the GATE 2027 score through their respective admission/recruitment portals and counselling processes.
  6. Complete Document Verification and Admission Formalities at the allotted institution to secure the postgraduate or research programme seat.

  1. Visit the official GATE 2027 portal at gate2026.iitg.ac.in from 14 August 2026 onwards.
  2. Find and click the “Apply Online” or “GATE 2027 Registration” link on the homepage once activated.
  3. Register by creating a new account using a valid personal email ID and active mobile number.
  4. Fill in the multi-step application form with accurate personal, academic, and paper-preference details — select the appropriate GATE paper(s) based on the qualifying degree and programme sought.
  5. Upload a recent passport-size photograph, signature, and all required documents (qualifying degree certificate/marksheet, category certificate, PwD certificate if applicable) in the prescribed format.
  6. Pay the applicable fee — ₹2,000 (General/OBC/EWS) or ₹1,000 (SC/ST/PH/Female) — before 21 September 2026 to avail the Phase I fee; Phase II fee of ₹2,500/₹1,500 applies for applications until 30 September 2026.
