Exam Pattern

  • Stage 1 — Computer Based Test (CBT): Firstly, NTA conducts UGC NET June 2026 as a Computer Based Test (CBT) spanning from 22 to 30 June 2026 across multiple sessions and subject papers. Specifically, the exam consists of Paper I (General Teaching & Research Aptitude — 50 questions, 100 marks) and Paper II (Subject-Specific Knowledge — 100 questions, 200 marks), totalling 150 questions and 300 marks attempted in 3 hours without any break between the two papers. Notably, there is no negative marking in UGC NET — consequently, candidates can attempt all questions without fear of mark deduction.
  • Stage 2 — Merit List: Subsequently, NTA prepares separate merit lists for JRF and Assistant Professor eligibility on the basis of marks scored in the CBT. Specifically, candidates who clear the JRF cutoff qualify for both JRF and Assistant Professor eligibility, while those clearing the Assistant Professor cutoff receive only teaching eligibility without the fellowship.
  • Final Result: Moreover, NTA declares the final result with subject-wise qualifying cutoffs on the official website. Additionally, qualified candidates receive a UGC NET Certificate that remains valid for lifetime for Assistant Professor eligibility — making this examination a one-time career milestone for academic aspirants.
